Plate Racks Guide

Decorate and Organize with a Wall Plate Rack

The wall plate rack comes in two categories. Those categories are decorative and organizational. Of course the organizational variety can be quite decorative as well. Wall plate racks are available in several different forms and are created from various materials.

The most popular style of wall plate rack is the decorative plate hanger that holds anywhere from one to several decorative, patterned or graphically interesting plates or tiles or even groupings of framed art. The plate hanger is either attached to the plate with a spring action clamp and then hung on the wall or the plate rack is mounted to the wall and the plates are then placed in individual holder spaces. The decorative wall plate rack is often itself, quite detailed. Metal or wrought iron versions often feature swirls and other artistic characteristics that extend beyond the plate display area and act as a frame for the entire wall display.  Wood wall plate racks can also be detailed with carvings and inlays to add to the overall display.

Organizational wall plate racks are normally made of wood but are also available in metal, molded plastic or acrylic and are also available from kitchen cabinet manufacturers. The kitchen cabinetry model wall plate rack is normally installed along with the cabinets to create a cohesive look in the kitchen. This style may either hold the plates in a vertical sideways position sort of like standing dominos but each plate has it’s own compartment that holds it in place. It may also feature hooks under the wall plate rack that hold coffee mugs or dish towels or a shelf to hold smaller plates, or even small framed artwork pieces.

Decorative wall plate racks are very popular and can be seen in both kitchens as backsplash décor or above cabinetry and in dining rooms often hanging above a buffet. Designers and homeowners alike usually choose groupings of plates to fill a large space in a dining area.
